Dear Friends and Members of InterfaithMK,
This Thursday is Lakshmi Puja and the famous peak of the Hindu festival of Divali, where candles are lit representing the victory of good over evil. New clothes will be bought, houses cleaned and gifts given. If you meet anyone finely dressed in Indian garb this week, please wish them a “Happy Deepavali or Divali”!
Our monthly meeting is a film evening on environmentalism, featuring a Presentation by Dr. Vandana Shiva on the topic of “Why We Need an Organic Future”, delivered to the Northeast Organic Farmers Association in 2017. Wikipedia describes Dr Shiva thus: “Vandana Shiva is an Indian scholar, environmental activist, food sovereignty advocate, ecofeminist and anti-globalisation author. Based in Delhi, Shiva has written more than 20 books. She is often referred as ‘Gandhi of grain’ for her activism associated with the anti-GMO movement.”
