Is there a possibility of us getting involved in actual Seva activities? Or, donating monthly is the only possibility and viability?
As mentioned in the Message regarding the Seva, sent out on Sunday 13 February, the most effective and practical way we could help St. Mark’s Meals is through a regular donation.
We would be grateful if the person who sent in the second Comment above, could contact Godfrey, our Service Coordinator (at [email protected]) to discuss suggestions that they may have in getting us involved in the practicalities of the said Seva, and which we could then pursue together. For information, the options for our involvement, (from St. Mark’s Meals), are listed below:
· Volunteer. We have volunteers who help pack boxes and deliver to schools when we get an order in. This is always on an ad hoc basis and there is an Application Form and a DBS check. We currently share space with the Food Bank and Baby Basics so we need to follow a procedure when inviting volunteers to work with us.
· Fundraise. Raising funds is always beneficial to us as we rely on the generosity of others and Grant Applications to be able to run St Mark’s Meals.
· Match Fund. We have different ways that people can support us financially, and you can choose an amount that you would like to match fund. The first being our regular givers (called the Kitchen Community), sponsored events or one-off donations.
· You have mentioned that you supported Breakfast Clubs across the city in the past; is this with food donations or funds? We have a unique item that we would like to add to one of our boxes and we’re looking for an Organisation or corporate business to help fund it. One of our boxes is a Kettle Box and is given to families when they find themselves in temporary accommodation. The recipe card for this is very limited as it has pasta pots or noodles in the box which only need limited instructions. But it does has have colouring pictures and word searches etc. on the card. We would like to provide each Kettle Box with colouring pencils as a bonus item and are looking for support with funding for this.
As there seems to be general agreement with donating funds to St. Mark’s Meals, we will start the donation of £100 a month from this month. Thank you, everyone.
