Massive praise for Shivani and her Team of Singers, from Deputy Lieutenant Francesca Skelton!

Dear Suresh

I have been meaning to write to you for ages to say how impressed and moved I was by your Sri Sathya Sai Youth Choir, who sang at the Multifaith Service in Campbell Park on Thursday 9 September.  The children and young people had such beautiful voices and sang so well together.  I had to look up just now to remind myself of a term I was seeking and after a bit of googling I found it: Ensemble singing!  Below is the BBC Bitesize definition

‘Ensemble singing describes how a choir of many voices blends together to sound like one big voice. When you sing in a choir, you are part of a team.’

I felt your young people were very much a team. If I remember rightly one of the older girls did quite a lot of solo singing, with the choir supporting. She had a stunning voice.  I take a great interest in singing as my daughter Anna learnt to sing well in the MK Youth Choir, went on to be a choral scholar at university, and it remains a central joy in her life.

In my role as Chair of the Arts and Heritage Alliance we embarked on a journey to explore our Cultural Inclusion and Diversity in MK.  We did some research and wrote a report

http://aha-mk.org/inclusion-and-diversity/ and were much supported in this journey by Gamiel Yafai.  We are doing some projects now to encourage young people to have some work experience in the cultural sector, as it is very much a business with a whole range of roles from finance, to communication and marketing, as well as curating, and events management.  We are also working with diverse communities to explore issue of identify through commissioning an artist.

And as a Deputy Lieutenant I and some fellow DLs have been asked to form a working group to build Lieutenancy connections with our diverse communities and faiths across Buckinghamshire.

For both these reasons it was a great experience to be at the Interfaith Service  (albeit rather cold by the end).  And for me and for Sarah Clarke, another MK based DL in MK, the beauty, quality and commitment of your choir was a real highlight.  I am sorry it has taken so long to share our praise and delight!

With all good wishes

Francesca
